Head Coach Harsha de Silva and ODI Captain Shashikala Siriwardena and T20 Captain Chamari Atapattu expressed optimism of putting on a good show at the upcoming bilateral tour of Australia commencing from September 29 to October 9.
At yesterday’s press briefing at the SLC auditorium, Coach Harsha de Silva said, “We have opted for separate captains with Shashikala as the ODI captain and Chamari as the T20 captain. Having separate captains is a practice followed by most countries. But the move was mainly to relieve Chamari of the captaincy pressure in view of the 2020 T20 World Cup in Atapattu said, “I believe we can create a difference because the 20/20 format is so open where any team can prevail due to the nature of the game. We have a blend of experience with a few young players.”
The tour will kick off with the three T20s with the first on September 29 at North Sydney Oval followed by two day night games on September 30 and October 2 at the same venue.
The three ODIs at A.B. Field,Brisbane will be on October 5, 7 and 9 respectively.
