Ton-up Chamari Atapattu lone heroine in lost cause

Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka Women’s Chamari Atappattu wrote her name as the hero in a lost cause in plundering her second century 103 off 124 balls on tour in the wake of her T20 113 as she showed up as the only giant in a dwarfed side by a highly professional Australian side which romped to a 9-wicket triumph in the final ODI at Sydney.

Sri Lanka’s next best score was that of 24 by Harshitha Madavi  in a total of  8 for 195 with three-quarter of the total coming from Chamari Atapattu’s bat as she sped to her fifth ODI ton off 124 balls clobbering 13 boundaries.

The Australian Women made light of the target fronted by Alyssa Healy’s 71-ball unbeaten 112 and Rachael Haynes 63.  The win gave Australia Women a record 18th successive ODI triumph and

3-nil cleansweep thus insulating their heavyweight dominance in women’s cricket.

The pleasing factor to the Sri Lankan camp was that for the first time in the series, Sri Lanka was able to set a target and the 1 for 68 start before Harshitha Madavi was run out by Healy’s direct

hit going for a single that was never there. But Atapattu stood firm adding 49 with Ama Kanchana and 47 with Oshadi Ranasinghe in hoisting her hundred off 120 deliveries.

CHIEF SCORES:

Sri Lanka 195/8 (50 Overs)

(Atapattu 103, Madavi 24, Wareham 2/18, Schutt 2/44)

Australia Women 196/1 (26.5 Overs)

 (Healy n.o. 112, Haynes 63)
