Chamari Atapattu 3/21 and cameo 78 as Sri Lanka Women blow off England Women

Sri Lanka Cricket

In a reversal of fortunes, the Sri Lanka Women confined the strong England outfit to the lambs of slaughter romping to a facile 10-wicket triumph on the breathtaking batting heroics of their pinch hitting captain Chamari Atapattu who bludgeoned 78 off 50 balls power packed with 5 sixes and 8 boundaries chasind down 122 for victory in their second warm-up match on Tuesday at Adelaide. Sri Lanka raced to 123 for no loss in 12.3 overs.

Atapattu, who has cut a niche in battling as underdogs in savaging strong opposition bowling attacks as she has proved by 3 of her 6 international centuries being against world champions Australia, took on the formidable England bowling attack after Sri Lanka had reduced England to 122 for 9 wickets in 20 overs. There too the Lankan skipper had a hand claiming 3  wickets for 21 in teaming up with veteran campaigner Shashikala Siriwardene who from the other end snared the English to return the impeccable figures of 4 for 22 from 4 overs.

Atapattu’s whirlwind knock, like most of her previous ones took the breath off the English as she found an able ally in Hasini Perera who played a subdued cushioning role to her skipper with an unbeaten 29 off 25 inclusive of 4 boundaries in most of the time palming the strike to her aggressive partner.
