New Zealand Women beat SL Women by 7 wickets on Sophie’s unbeaten 75

New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine struck a compelling unbeaten 75 (55 balls, 6×4, 2×6) in registering a 7-wicket win over the Sri Lanka Women in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at the W.A.C.A., Perth yesterday. 

Batting first, Sri Lanka made 127 for 7 in 20 overs with skipper Chamari Atapattu alias A.C. Jayangani top scoring with 41 off 30 balls with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. Her dismissal put paid to Sri Lanka’s prospects of posting a sizable total with only Harshitha Madavi remaining unbeaten on 27 off 26 inclusive of a boundary and six in the wake of opener Hasini Perera’s 20 and 15 M.A.A. Sanjeewani 15. New Zealand’s key wicket takers were H.N.K. Jensen who took 3 for 16 and A.C. Kerr 2 for 21.
