Lahiru Madushanka packs the promise of a potential all-rounder

Twenty-eight year old  Lahiru Madushanka’s five sixes hitting spree in his 54-ball match winning unbeaten  knock of 74 for the SLC Greys against SLC Blues on Tuesday did raise the stocks of the fast bowling all-rounder considerably. Significantly, this product hailing from Matale who launched his cricket career from S. Thomas’ College, did raise his hands for national recognition in the vogue of all-round prowess that has proved to be a key dominative factor in world cricket.

A player who has worked hard to recognition in domestic cricket as a potential all-rounder over the years, Madushanka has indeed dawned as great hope in instant cricket at a juncture match winning pinch hitters have come to dominate the game. Going by his recent cameo it is hoped the youngster would make translate early small beginnings of just two T20 internationals and four ODIs to lofty heights.

In the ongoing tournament he has two not outs – 74 and 16 and taken 2 wickets for 21 against the Reds.

He has scored 2275 first lass runs in 62 appearances with a highest of 164 and in List A 899 runs with a highest of 51 not out. He has scored 546 runs in domestic cricket.

He has claimed 92 first class wickets and 54 List A scalps and 48 T20 wickets.
