Sri Lanka Women ended their bid to make the last eight of the Commonwealth Games Women’s Tournament 2022 on a triumphant note defèating Bangladesh in the final outing of the qualifying stage by 22 runs at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday.
The toast of the Lankan players was its skipper Chamari Atapattu who won the Player of the Match Award as well as the Player of the qualifying Tournament as well.
Against Bangladesh, Atapattu fired a cameo 28-ball 48. The Lankan skipper who has captivated the big stage as perhaps the most devastating women’s batter around, smashed 3 sixes and 6 boundaries in a fleet footed display after calling right on the toss as Sri Lanka posted 136 for 6 in 20 overs. She dominated the highest second wicket partnership of 47 runs accounting for a good part of 40 runs with her partner Hashini Perera contribving just 7.
Bangladesh did make a spirited reply of 114 for 5 off 20, but the Lankan attack kept a tight check with skipper Atapattu dominating with the ball as well accounting for three of the victims for figures of 3 for 17.
The Lankan total was also boosted by Nilakshi de Silva 25 (1×4, 1×6), Harshini Madavi 19 (2×4) and Anushika Sanjeewani 16 (1×4). Bangladesh’s wicket taker was Nahid Akdrer with 2 for 34 while their top scorer was Murshida Khotun with 36 inclusive of 3 boundaries followed by Fargana Hoque with 33 off 39 with 2 boundaries.
