- SLC SKYEXCHANGE INVITATIONAL T20 LEAGUE 2022:
Sri Lanka’s young batting sensation Charith Asalanka, the captain of Team Blues, speaking at yesterday’s captain’s briefing at the Cinnamon Lakeside, said that he owed his success to his batting peaking at international level of late to nothing but rigorous practice and staying focused on his game. Responding to my question on the tremendous surge in his stroke making, Asalanka said, “It is all because of my sheer commitment to strenuous practice and focussing on upping my game. There have been no short cuts.”
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka T20 Captain Dasun Shanaka, who is leading Team Greens, said that this tournament was an opportunity for players to stake a claim for recognition. “This tournament is a chance for players to come good. Also, the live telecast will also enable the cricket loving public to get a first hand hang of the player potential.”.
At the outset, Chairman. SLC Tournament Committee, Samantha Dodanwela, while making special mention of the sponsors SkyExchange IPG Sports, thanked its top brass for coming forward to sponsor this tournament. “Furthermore, this tournament was launched in place of the Premier league which did not take place because of the current economic crisis. Importantly it will enable those players without contracts and who have done well in domestic cricket to impress.” (PARA 4) Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis, captain of Team Reds, welcomed the opportunity of leading a team for the first time. “I look forward to this opportunity to skippering a team for the first time and look forward to making the most of it,” he said.
Ashan Priyanjan, captain of Team Greys, said that he looked to meeting the underdogs challenge of leading a side that is outnumbered by more recognised teams. “I expect to make the most of the available talent,” he said.
