Sri Lanka Women made a clean sweep of the 3-match ODI series against the West Indies Women yesterday by a comprehensive 160-run triumph of the final game on a massive 275 for 6 wickets in 50 overs to bundling out the visitors for 115 in 34.5 overs at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.
In what was a head-to-head run for the Player of the Match award with Lankan skipper Chamarie Athapaththu scoring 91 off 106 balls inclusive of 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, and Sachini Nisansala’s 5-wicket haul for 28, the award swayed in favour of the Lankan bowler’s feat in decimating the opposition.
Put into bat, Sri Lanka went on to consolidate on the first-wicket 93 pertnership between Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne 44 off 60 inclusive of 6 boundaries. Despite the next two Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hansima Karunaratne in the space of 6 runs, side was rallied by next in Nilakshi Silva 63 off 78 with 8 boundaries who put on 57 for the fourth wicket with Athapaththu, and a further 115 for the fifth wicket with Anushka Sanjeewani 55 off 46 hitting 6 boundaries and a six.
The West Indies batting came apart in the face of the left-arm orthodox bowling of Sachini Nisansala by her 5-wicket take 5.5-over spell with Oshadi Ranasinghe chipping in with 2 wickets for 14. Chedean Nation top scored for the West Indies with 46 off 57 with 7 boundaries.
Vishmi Gunaratne took the Player of the Series award.
